Who Should You Listen to When Making Career Decisions?

Listen to people who have what you want.

If I want to make a million dollars, should I ask my high-school math teacher or a millionaire?

If I want an NCAA D1 scholarship, should I ask my friends or a D1 level coach/player on where I should play? If you want to play professional hockey, should you ask someone who retired at the end of college, or someone who played or coached for several years?

Over the course of my career people might say that I’ve gone against the grain – when in reality I just asked the people who had what I wanted what I should do. It was very easy for me to decide on where to take my career once I got the right answers from the right people. You just have to understand who you should listen to, and tune out the sea of opinions that’ll get you nowhere fast.
